My Review and Thoughts:
My Rating: 3 out of 5
Another interesting choice by Twilight Time. This is my first time seeing this and it was a total treat in that reality of seeing a movie for the first time. A great phenomenal cast. An odd, weird story. Now I want to first say this is not for everyone for this film is rated RATED NC-17 for Explicit Sexuality, so be warned.
The whole cast is a selection of multi-talent. The one and only Richard Dreyfuss. Huge fan. Jaws, Close Encounters are two of my favorite films. Dreyfus is an excellent masterful actor that always holds his part no matter how small or big it is. He did a fantastic job in Inserts as the character Boy Wonder. Also starring the amazing, (god rest his soul, I miss him) Bob Hoskins. Hoskins was pure genius in character creations on screen and the part of Big Mac in Inserts defines his ability. Also a true personal favorite. An actress I fell in love with growing up, the amazing one of a kind Jessica Harper. She plays the character of Cathy Cake. To me all one has to do is look at her amazing career, starring in so many cult classics, such as the one and only 1977’s dark twisted horror masterpiece Suspiria. She is a golden goddess of cinema that just makes one smile watching her perform. Also starring the beautiful and stunning and highly gifted actress Veronica Cartwright. I love Cartwright. She has been in so many wonderful films, my two personal favorite’s 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the sci-fi masterpiece 1979’s Alien. It was truly wonderful seeing her in Inserts.
The plot is quite interesting. You have your directors and actors from the silent era. Cinema is changing and the talkies have taken over. So what does these Silent Stars do, considering they are not making it in the talkies, they turn to making pornography. So Boy Wonder who was a top Silent Film director no longer seems wanted. Join in others who have been let down and you have an interesting completion of unfolding rights and wrongs. Drugs, porn making, over doses and bodies bring this wild over the top film into a dark comedy drama. This film touches on some very dark realities and mixing a lot of humor into the conclusion. This is one of those movies you have to see to fully understand or accept.
I will admit I am not a huge fan of this movie but the acting to me is what makes this film watchable, also the odd plot.
This is directed by John Byrum. Byrum has only directed four motion pictures. A few TV episodes and a TV movie. Not only a director but a writer of film, his last work was in 2000 when he wrote the film Duets. I think Inserts is a different and unique film with dynamic performers. Inserts is one of those movies that you either like or don’t, or stuck in the middle. I like it for it’s odd storyline and its performances.
Twilight Time did a lovely job in bringing this out on 1080p high definition. The technical reality to the product is top notch. The film itself will be an acquired taste. Many of those who are into the darker humor, or a film that tries to add to much dramatic overtones. I don’t think the director knew what he wanted to do, was it supposed to be a comedy, or was it supposed to be a drama, or is it just a mixed bag. I felt the movie tried too hard to categorize itself, and the viewer could not help but be pulled in multiple directions. Don’t get me wrong it's not a bad movie, the acting is what saves it to me. The cast is brilliant; the storyline was all over the place, but still came together to create a very interesting watch.

Being the first time seeing this, I have nothing to compare it to, but what I can say the audio is spot on and the imagery is vibrant and stands out as a high quality transfer to Blu-ray.

Sadly, very weak on the Special Features. But it was great seeing the film itself on a high quality Blu-ray which is an extra in itself.

As I have stated. Twilight Time did an amazing transfer. Wonderful audio and video. The Blu-ray is an excellent example of how to transfer an older film into a new setting. This film is an acquired taste, some will absolutely love it, and others might be a little dumbfounded by it. Whatever the case this is a lovely Blu-ray with great audio and video quality.
