Twilight Time Blu-ray: Husbands and Wives (1992)

Husbands and Wives (1992)

Company: Twilight Time

Starring:  Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Liam Neeson, Juliette Lewis, Judy Davis, Blythe Danner, Sydney Pollack

My Review and Thoughts:

My Rating: 4 out of 5

This film is about two couples. Jack and Sally and Gabe and Judy. The movie starts out with Jack and Sally announcing that they are separating. Gabe is totally shocked by this reality. But his wife Judy takes it a little different. She takes it personal. She is ultimately very hurt by the idea of separation. So, begins the dramatic reality of 4 people and the many dramas taking place during this time. Told in a fashion that only Woody Allen really owns. The mundane, dramatic long dialogue and lack of action setting. The movie is pure Allen at what he does best. Capturing reality-based moments in dramatic overtones.

Twilight Time has released many Woody Allen films on Special Edition, 3,000 Unit Blu-ray’s. Which you can read my reviews for all of them by looking in the Twilight Time Section on the Left-hand side. From: A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy / Love and Death / The Purple Rose of Cairo, Interiors, September, Another Woman, Alice and many others. Woody Allen needs no introduction to the cinema world. His vast career of films as both writer, director, actor and so on, have been hits, misses, but always unique and interesting.

Woody Allen has a style that only he can do and get away with in film. He has a natural talent of creating truly original pieces of cinema. His ultimate completion of films is something that stands out as being one of a kind experiences.

You either love or hate Woody Allen movies. Most of Allen’s films are simple, down to earth and nothing grand, just great interaction and performances and that is what Husbands and Wives details. That performing holds the watcher, and creates a satisfied experience, no matter how simplistic it is. Woody Allen is just one of those unique, masterly, gifted and iconic performers, directors, and writers that are, few.

One of your main female leads in many of Allen’s older films, is his once wife, and often a stable, actress Mia Farrow. Always a wonderful treat to see. An amazing actress that owns and creates a memorable character that only she can do in every film she starred in. My personal favorite is one of my favorite horror films of all time, the one and only Rosemary’s Baby. I often return to this film repeatedly.

Farrow’s acting in Rosemary’s Baby is something that shines with complete clarity in how to create a perfect horror film and build a character. That brings me to the character of Judy in this movie I am reviewing Husbands and Wives. Mia can bring this character to life in a believable reality like she always does.

Also starring the wonderful Juliette Lewis, always a treat to see. Also starring the wonderful actor and director, God rest his soul Sydney Pollack. The amazing Judy Davis also stars. Also keep an eye out for many stars like most of Allen’s films have, such as in this one it has the great Liam Neeson and the wonderful Ron Rifkin. This also stars the very underrated actress Lysette Anthony. Anthony is a great actress and always shines.

Another fantastic job in creating a new outlet of High Definition imagery and amazing audio quality. Twilight Time always masters this reality.

My Rating: 5 out of 5

VIDEO: 1080p High Definition / 1.85:1
AUDIO: English 1.0 DTS-HD MA

Special Features: Isolated Music & Effects Track: Slim pickings in this department. Most of Woody Allen’s Blu-ray releases by Twilight Time have no real extras other than the Isolated music track or partial Music track. This one is no different. The music department in the movie is not even given billing credit. The music in the film, the piano setting is done by Musician Bernie Leighton. Bernie before his death in 1994 worked on many Allen films from Hannah and her Sisters, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and New York Stories.
